Deckle checks for a new version by itself each time it starts and offers to install it; you can also check any time from Settings → Account → Check for Updates. After an update, the first launch shows what changed in plain words, and the same notes stay in Settings → What's New for whenever you want to reread them.

Step-by-Step
- Let the launch check do its job. When Deckle starts, it looks for a newer version. If there is one, it tells you and offers to install it. Downloading and installing show their progress, and Deckle restarts itself when it is done.
- Check by hand if you want to. Open Settings, go to Account, and under About click Check for Updates. It says either that you're up to date or which version is available.
- Read what changed. The first time you open Deckle after updating, a short window lists what is new in that version, each item in a sentence or two.
- Try a change on the spot. Many items have a Show me button that takes you to the change itself, so you can see it in your own book rather than reading about it.
- Come back to the notes later. Settings has a What's New tab with the same list for the version you are running.
Common Mistakes
- Postponing updates indefinitely. Updates carry fixes as well as features, including fixes to how your exported files are built. Install them when offered.
- Assuming a failed update means a broken install. If an update can't complete, Deckle says so and keeps working on the version you had. See troubleshooting a failed update for the usual causes.
- Missing the notes and never finding the new feature. They aren't gone after you close the window: they are in Settings → What's New.
