Welcome to Deckle. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Deckle desktop application ("Deckle," "the App," "the Software") and the deckle.studio website (the "Site"), operated by Burhanuddin Ezzy ("we," "us," "our"). By purchasing, downloading, installing, or using Deckle, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Software.
When you purchase Deckle, you're buying a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software for your own personal or professional writing and publishing work. Your license activates on up to 2 devices at a time. There is no subscription and no recurring fee for continued use of the version(s) you're licensed for. This commitment applies to the Deckle application itself; it does not limit how we may price any optional future features or services, which could include one-time or recurring pricing depending on what they are (see Section 2).
This license is for your own use. You may not resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or share your license key with anyone else.
Your one-time purchase includes the Deckle application and all future updates to the Deckle application, at no additional cost, for as long as we continue developing it. From time to time, we may introduce new, optional features or services available for an additional purchase — these are always separate from, and never required to use, the core Deckle application you already own. Nothing you already have access to will be moved behind a new paywall.
Deckle, including its design, code, and branding, is owned by us and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Your license gives you the right to use the Software — it does not transfer ownership of the Software to you. Any manuscripts, text, or other content you create using Deckle remain entirely yours; we claim no rights over content you write or export using the App.
You agree not to:
Deckle is currently offered at an early access price. This price may increase for future purchasers as the product approaches full release; it does not change what you owe once you've purchased. All payments are processed securely through our payment processor, Paddle.com Market Ltd. We do not store your full payment card details.
Refunds are handled under our separate Refund Policy, available here. By purchasing Deckle, you agree to the terms described there.
Deckle is provided "as is" and "as available." While we work hard to keep it reliable, we make no warranties, express or implied, that the Software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for a particular purpose beyond what's described on our Site. You're responsible for backing up your manuscript files; we recommend keeping your own backups in addition to any project files Deckle creates.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, Deckle — including loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption — even if we've been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of Deckle will not exceed the amount you actually paid us.
We may revoke or deactivate a license key in cases of fraud, chargeback abuse, violation of these Terms, or unauthorized distribution of the Software. You may stop using Deckle at any time; your license remains valid for continued use unless revoked under this section.
We may update these Terms from time to time as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Deckle after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
