What You Can Do
- Style eight special page types independently: Copyright, Dedication, Epigraph, Table of Contents, Foreword, About the Author, Also By, and Glossary.
- Set font, size, and alignment for each page type on its own, separate from your body text and chapter styling.
- Choose Footnotes vs. Endnotes for the whole manuscript, grouped in the same sidebar for convenience, but a global style choice rather than a page to style.
How to Style a Special Page
- Open Styles and select the Special Pages category.
- Pick a page type from the sidebar: Copyright, Dedication, Epigraph, ToC, Foreword, About the Author, Also By, or Glossary.
- Set its font, size, and alignment.
The 8 Special Page Types
- Copyright: your copyright notice page.
- Dedication: a short dedication, typically centered.
- Epigraph: a quote or excerpt placed before the story begins.
- Table of Contents: your book's generated ToC page.
- Foreword: an introductory piece, often by someone other than the author.
- About the Author: your author bio page.
- Also By: a list of your other books.
- Glossary: term definitions, common in fantasy/sci-fi and non-fiction.
Notes: Footnote vs. Endnote Style (Not a Page)
The sidebar's "Notes" entry lives here for organization, not because it's a styleable page. It's where you choose whether footnotes render as Footnotes (bottom of the page in print, or a same-file popup/jump note in EPUB) or Endnotes (collected onto one dedicated page at the end of the book, each with a backlink to where it was referenced). This is a single global choice for the whole manuscript, not something you set per-document.
A Couple of Things Worth Knowing
💡 These pages only appear in your export if you've actually created the corresponding document. Styling a page type here sets how it looks, not whether it exists in your manuscript. Chapter-level content has its own separate Special Blocks styling instead.
💡 Each page type is independent of your body text styling. Changing your main body font doesn't change your Dedication or Epigraph font unless you set that separately here.
FAQ
Do I need to style all eight page types even if I'm not using most of them?
No, only the ones you actually include in your manuscript matter; the rest simply won't appear in your export regardless of their styling.
Does Special Page styling apply to EPUB as well as PDF?
Yes, like the rest of Styles, these settings apply across PDF, EPUB, and DOCX.
Why is "Notes" listed here if it's not a page I can style?
It's grouped into the same sidebar for convenience (an Endnotes page is itself a backmatter special page), but it's actually the global Footnotes/Endnotes style choice, not a page with its own font/size/alignment.
