Arm a color once, and everything you type or paste from that point on gets it automatically: no reselecting text after every sentence just to keep marking a revision pass.
What You Can Do
- Turn on Revision Mode with one click from the text color picker, then keep writing normally. Every new character, whether typed or pasted, picks up the armed color.
- Switch the armed color at any time without turning the mode off first.
- Turn it off the same way you turned it on, and go back to typing in your normal color.
- Trust that it's editor-only: like any text color, it's automatically stripped from every export format (PDF, EPUB, DOCX, Markdown), so it never affects your published book.
How to Use Revision Mode
- Click the text color (A) button in the editor toolbar to open the color picker.
- Pick the color you want this revision pass marked with.
- At the bottom of the picker, click "Keep this color as I keep typing."
- Keep writing. Every new range of text you type or paste is colored automatically, with no need to reselect anything.
- Click the same row again (now reading "Revision color on. Click to stop") to turn it off.
How It Actually Colors Your Text
Revision Mode doesn't just color the next character you type the way a normal "sticky" formatting toggle might. It watches each change to the document and colors exactly the range that was added, which is what makes it work identically whether you're typing one letter at a time or pasting in a whole paragraph, without a separate mechanism for each.
A Couple of Things Worth Knowing
💡 It's a session setting, not saved to your project. Revision Mode resets to off the next time you open the project. It's meant as a "what did I just add on this pass" signal, not a permanent record.
💡 Picking a new color while it's already on re-arms it with that color, so you don't need to turn it off and back on again to switch which color new text gets.
💡 It's available in the main editor and popout windows. If you write in Scrivenings/Continuous view, switch to a single-document pane to use Revision Mode for that session.
FAQ
Will my revision colors show up in my exported EPUB or PDF?
No. Like all text color in Deckle, it's stripped automatically from every export format. It's purely an in-app visual aid.
Is this the same as Track Changes in Word?
No. Track Changes records a structured, reviewable edit history with accept/reject controls. Revision Mode is simpler: a visual "what did I just add" signal for your own solo revision pass, not a two-party review workflow.
Does Revision Mode stay on if I close and reopen my project?
No. It's scoped to your current session and resets to off the next time you open the project.
Can I use more than one revision color in the same pass?
Yes. Pick a new color from the swatch at any point while Revision Mode is on, and it re-arms with that color immediately, without needing to turn the mode off first.
