Atticus Book Formatting Price

Atticus costs $147 once, with updates and a 30-day money-back guarantee, as of October 2026. What the price covers, what it does not, and three-year costs.

Atticus costs $147 as a one-time payment, as of October 2026. The price covers unlimited books and ebooks, the writing and formatting app on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook and the browser, and future updates. There is no subscription and no free trial. Atticus offers a 30-day money-back guarantee instead.

Every fact below comes from atticus.io and its ThriveCart checkout page, read on 20 October 2026. Prices change, so check the checkout page before buying.

How much does Atticus cost?

Atticus has one price: $147, in US dollars. The homepage headline reads "Write and Format Unlimited Books and Ebooks For Only $147". Under it Atticus says "One time payment (No monthly fees. Forever.)"

The checkout page at atticus.thrivecart.com lists one line item, "Atticus", at $147. It shows no tiers, no ebook-only edition and no print add-on. The checkout has a coupon code field and an optional EU VAT number field.

Atticus has no education discount and no lifetime-versus-annual choice. Its help centre said on 28 October 2025, and still says as of October 2026, "we don't currently have any discounts available because the price is so competitive as it is". There is only the one purchase.

Is Atticus a one-time payment?

Yes. Atticus states that it "is a one-time purchase and will include all future updates at no additional cost!" The homepage adds: "Pay once and you'll receive ongoing updates, including new features and improvements". The checkout lists "Ongoing updates for free" as a benefit.

That puts Atticus with Vellum and Scrivener on price model, and away from subscription writing apps such as Dabble or Novelcrafter.

What does the $147 include?

The homepage and checkout name these items:

  • The app. "Instant Access to Atticus", to "Format your book on any desktop device, with or without an internet connection."
  • Unlimited books. The headline says "Unlimited Books and Ebooks". There is no per-book fee.
  • Every platform. Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, plus any browser. Atticus runs as a progressive web app, which you install from Chrome on a computer, or add to the home screen on a phone or tablet.
  • Exports. EPUB, PDF and DOCX, listed in the homepage comparison table.
  • Updates. All future updates, at no extra cost.

The same price buys the writing side too: drag-and-drop chapters, volumes and parts, book goals, a writing-habit tracker and a word counter. Atticus lists version history as "Coming Soon".

What the $147 does not cover

Atticus's own pages set out a few limits that are easy to miss before buying.

One account, your own devices. The Terms & Conditions grant a "non-transferable, limited right to use the Atticus Services" and only "on devices owned or controlled by You". They add: "You may not use another person's account or information."

One device at a time. The access help page says Atticus is designed for any device "but ideally only one device at one time." To switch, you log out of the first device, which "will force sync everything to the cloud", then log in on the second.

Collaborators buy their own copy. Atticus added collaboration in December 2024. Its help page says that when you invite someone who is not an Atticus user, "you will see a notification asking if you would like to invite them to purchase Atticus to collaborate with you." A co-author therefore needs a licence of their own. Atticus publishes no team or multi-seat price.

Import and export online. Atticus's help articles, most recently on 5 June 2026, say "You do need to be online to import and export files". Writing works offline and syncs when you reconnect. The undated homepage says you can format "with or without an internet connection", but as of October 2026 the newer help articles keep the online rule. Test it during the refund window if you work offline.

No affiliate pricing. Atticus publishes no affiliate programme terms on atticus.io. Its Terms say "any link you click on an Atticus product, material, or software should be assumed to be an affiliate link", which is about links inside Atticus's own materials.

Is there a free trial of Atticus?

No. Atticus lists no free plan and no trial on its homepage or checkout. It offers a refund instead.

What is the Atticus refund policy?

Atticus offers a "30-Day Money Back Guarantee", and adds: "if you're not 100% satisfied you can get your money back, no questions asked." The checkout repeats the 30-day guarantee and asks you to accept a refund and return policy before paying. The Terms & Conditions page does not set out refund terms.

In practice, the 30 days are your trial. Import a real chapter, export an EPUB and a print PDF, and check both before the window closes.

Is Atticus worth it?

Atticus is worth $147 if you want to write and format in one app on Windows, Linux, a Chromebook or a mix of computers. If you only need a KDP ebook, Kindle Create is free; the full verdict is in Is Atticus worth it?, and the wider set of options is on Atticus alternatives.

How Deckle's price model compares

Deckle is our app, so weigh this section accordingly. Deckle is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux that covers writing, organising and formatting. It is a one-time purchase with every update included, and the price is on the Deckle shop.

The difference that matters here is how you try it. Atticus has no trial and gives you 30 days to ask for a refund. Deckle has a free demo: click Take Deckle for a Spin on the screen Deckle opens to. There is no card, no account and no time limit. It opens a sample novel with every screen open to explore, and you can restyle it and export real EPUB, PDF and DOCX files. New writing is capped at about 500 words, and new documents and imports are blocked.

Deckle's export window offering EPUB, a print-ready PDF, a Word document and Academia PDF for the same book. The export formats the demo can produce from its sample novel

Deckle also refunds within 30 days. A licence covers two devices, in any mix of Windows, Mac and Linux. Deckle has no browser version and no collaboration, both of which Atticus has. The direct comparison is at Deckle vs Atticus.
