Moving Deckle to a New Computer

Getting a new computer doesn't mean buying Deckle again. Deactivating on the old machine and reactivating on the new one takes a couple of minutes.

What You'll Need

• Access to your old computer (or at least to have deactivated it there before it's unavailable), your license key, and your project files.

Step-by-Step

1. On your old computer, back up or copy your project files first, before doing anything with your license: a .deckle file plus its accompanying Images and research folders. Deactivating your license doesn't touch your project files, but it's good practice to have them in hand before you switch machines.
2. Open Settings → Account on your old computer and click Deactivate License…, then confirm. This frees up that seat, even if you're offline at the moment. The deactivation applies locally right away.
3. Install Deckle on your new computer and launch it. You'll land on the activation screen automatically, since it's not yet activated on this device.
4. Enter your license key exactly as it appears on your original purchase confirmation.
5. Copy your project files onto the new computer and open them from Deckle's File menu, the same way you would on any computer.

Common Mistakes

• Activating on the new computer before deactivating on the old one, and hitting the device limit. If that happens, just go back to the old computer (or wait until you can) and deactivate there, then try activating the new one again.
• Assuming your projects transfer automatically. They don't. Activation only concerns your license, not your files. Copy your .deckle project (and its Images/research folders) over separately, using a drive, cloud storage, or however you normally move files between computers.
• Losing access to the old computer before deactivating. If that happens, deactivation still requires reaching that device or its stored state. Plan to deactivate before a computer is wiped, sold, or becomes inaccessible.
