- Open Styles and select the Colors category.
- Set each of the four colors (Body text, Background, Headings, Accent/drop cap) using the swatch picker or by typing a hex code directly.
- Check the live preview below the color fields to see them applied together.
Which Export Formats Actually Use Your Colors
This is the one setting in Styles that doesn't apply uniformly everywhere: background color applies to PDF only. EPUB readers use their own reader-controlled background setting (light mode, dark mode, sepia, etc., chosen by the reader in their app), so Deckle's background color choice doesn't carry over there. Body text, heading, and accent colors do apply across formats.
A Couple of Things Worth Knowing
💡 Hex codes must be typed as a full 6-digit code (e.g. #1a1a2e). Shorthand 3-digit hex codes aren't accepted in the text field.
💡 The accent color covers both drop caps and small ornamental elements. It's one shared color, not a separate setting for each.

Will my background color show up in my EPUB?
No, EPUB readers control their own background (including dark mode), so Deckle's background color setting only applies to PDF.
Do body text and heading colors apply to EPUB and DOCX too?
Yes, unlike background color, body text, heading, and accent colors carry across PDF, EPUB, and DOCX.
