Codex Templates in Deckle

Stop rebuilding the same set of fields for every new Codex character or location. Save an entry's structure once as a template, and every new entry from it starts pre-built instead of blank.

What You Can Do

• Save any entry's sections and fields (not its values) as a reusable template.
• Create a new entry directly from a template, with every field already in place, ready to fill in.
• Edit a template's fields later (type, options, order) from the Manage Templates modal.
• Start a brand-new custom section from a Character, Location, or Item starter template instead of from scratch.

How to Use Templates

1. Build out an entry's custom sections and fields the way you want them.
2. Use Save as Template, and give it a name. This captures the structure only, not this entry's specific values.
3. When adding a new entry, pick your saved template instead of Blank, and every field comes pre-built.
4. Open Manage Templates to edit a template's fields: change a field's type, edit dropdown options, reorder fields, or delete a template entirely.

A Couple of Things Worth Knowing

💡 Saving as a template never touches the original entry. It's a one-time copy of the structure, not an ongoing link. Editing the template later doesn't change the entry it came from, and editing that entry doesn't change the template.

💡 Creating an entry from a template is also a one-time copy. Fields start blank and independent; editing one entry created from a template never affects sibling entries made from the same template.
