Deckle 1.6 Brings a Smarter Story Bible, Selective Compiling, and a More Flexible Outliner

Deckle, the all-in-one novel writing and formatting app, today released version 1.6, adding faster ways to navigate your story bible, finer control over what actually ships in your compiled manuscript, and a more flexible Outliner for restructuring a book from anywhere inside it.

A Faster, Smarter Story Bible

The Codex now supports filters and collapsible sections, so finding a single character, location, or item across a large project takes seconds instead of scrolling. Character and location templates are also now centrally editable: update a template once, and every entry built from it updates automatically, instead of requiring authors to edit each entry by hand.

Exclude Any Document From Your Compiled Book

Writers can now keep an alternate draft, a chapter that isn’t ready, or a working outline sitting directly alongside the rest of their manuscript, and leave it out of export with a single click. Excluding a folder excludes everything nested inside it too, with a clear marker in the Binder so nothing gets left out by accident.

A More Flexible Outliner

The Outliner now lets writers pull documents from different chapters onto one board and drag them into a new order side by side, regardless of where each one started out, making large-scale restructuring far less tedious.

Also in 1.6

  • Paste Clean Text Anywhere: copy a scene or chapter with no formatting attached, ready for an email, a critique group post, or a plain text file.
  • Spellcheck in More Languages: added support for Swiss German, Turkish, and Norwegian Bokmål, and spellcheck now also covers Codex character and location notes, not just the manuscript.
  • Help Is One Click Away: the Help menu now links directly to the Deckle Wiki, a full guide to every feature and workflow.
  • A batch of quality-of-life improvements across the editor, sidebar, and export, plus a round of reliability fixes.

Every release exists to remove one more piece of friction between an author and a finished book.
